The previous article of this series on “Early Smalltalk-80 exploration” started with my attempts at getting an “old-flavored” Smalltalk-80. Check post: Squeak 1.x and early attempts at “original” Smalltalk-80.
What do i have now as a start :
- SheepShaver running System 9 and Squeak 1.31.
- The blue book (an original) – available in PDF from Ducasse’s site.
- Errata of this book from “Mario Wolczko”
- Dan Ingalls original paper on Squeak
A word from Mario Wolczko on the Blue Book.
Caution: the user interface is definitely old school – hey – that’s the original ideas for windows, menus, scroll bars, bit map fonts, etc… so don’t complain – enjoy instead this moment of history.
..to be continued…
